A Qualifying Stage classic and a new team from Santiago achieve the classification in this first Qualifying Stage. EFL Calvo Sanz goes for its 3rd classification on a Qalifying Stage that they master like almost no one. SD Villestro, a young team full of "vitality" will make its debut on the Final Stage, after winning the pass having troubles only against UD Santa Mariña. If you want to know more keep reading.![]() EFL Calvo Sanz: Enrique José Varela, Diego Ferreiro, Juan Fuentes, Mauro Serrano, Miguel Loureiro, Santiago Alejandro Solari, Sergi Bouzas, Sergio Sueiro, Manuel Nogueira, Sergio Capelán, Victor Alcaina, Daniel Quintela, Javier Souto, Mario Sánchez, Jose Luis Vara y Santiago Gabriel Serrano. SD Villestro: Iván Viqueira, Román Seoane, Ignacio Hermmelino, Alexandre Vilarello, Brais Pedreira, Tino Míguez, David Rodríguez, Miguel Novegil, Alex Rodríguez, Iván Bouzas, Daniel del Toro, Anxo Pérez, Sergio Pereira, Fernando Sainz y Juan Rodríguez. EFL Calvo Sanz owned group C with 4 victories, only a goal received and +11 in the goal-average. Then they had lots of troubles in the next round against CD Conxo, who only gave up on the penalty shootout (8 penalties each team). In that match, CD Conxo didn't deserve to be eliminated, but Calvo Sanz were warning about the danger they hid, being a hard team who prefer to be dominated and counterattack, using the strength and quality of Sergio Sueiro, Manuel Nogueira and Sergio Capelán. That was the medicine they used to knock out EFB Moañesa on Quarter-Finals. That was a good match, with Moañesa ruling and playing well, but being unable of making goals, thus ending losing 0-3. In the last match, against Porriño, Vara and his teammates won easily. SD Villestro, on the other hand, took its group by storm, making 21 goals for a +19 goal-average and 12 points. Spectacular. Then in the next round they took advantage of easier match-ups. The teams they played against were already too tired (EF Lalín, Puebla CF, etc. did a good tournament, but never threatened Villestro). SD Villestro players always try to play bright, though anarchic sometimes, taking advantage of open games, with lots of transitions between defense and offense, having a treasure on their forwards' speed. We have to note Ivan Viqueira, their goalkeeper, who made a memorable final, with antological catches. The true merit of SD Villestro is achieving their first pass to the finals with half a docen of first-year players, some of them with relevant roles, like Alex Rodríguez. The final was a hard game against UD Santa Mariña, as they had their chances but lost the game in the penalties shootout, with moments of high stress. They will enjoy their first Final Stage "among the great ones", as Fernando Sainz (their mister) said, who didn't know where to escape during all the final. He's a big show!!! Congratulations! |
